News Passeggiata: An Airbnb Experience of Milan
"Passeggiata: An Airbnb Experience of Milan was definitely my highlight of Salone. Martina is as clever an editor as she is a curator, the concept and her designers' choices felt seamless and not forced, well integrated in the (obviously fascinating) location which is a great thing to achieve.”

April 2017For this year’s edition of Milan Design Week, Airbnb created a truly unique experience of Milan, design and travel.

Passeggiata: An Airbnb Experience of Milan, curated by Martina Mondadori Sartogo for Salone del Mobile 2017, presented interactive hosted experiences for guests alongside an installation at the private Milanese home Casa degli Atellani

For the first time during Salone, Airbnb provided access to the 15th century private home Casa degli Atellani, which was once home to Leonardo da Vinci who resided there whilst painting the Last Supper.

Casa degli Atellani acted as a hub for a series of intimate experiences, led by design influencers including Martina herself inviting guests to visit hidden and undiscovered places in Milan. From visiting the private Piero Portaluppi Foundation with Rodman Primack Creative Officer of Design Miami/, to seeing JJ Martin’s collection of 1950s vintage jewellery, these exclusive Experiences captivated and inspired visitors and set the scene for the introduction of Airbnb Trips in Milan later this year.

Inside Atellani, visitors explored the personal collections of renowned designers such as Dimore Studio and architect Roberto Bacciochi. Set within ‘cabinets of curiosity’, Martina revealed the personal collections of some of the design world’s most celebrated names. Architect Matteo Thun, showcased a series of never-before-seen watercolours, inspired by his travels abroad. Faye Toogood revealed her collection of ethereal stones and rocks, mementos collected on her travels, which have influenced and inspired her own work.

Alongside these personal collections, Martina curated vignettes of work from emerging designers, demonstrating Airbnb’s ongoing commitment to championing new talent. Reflecting the international nature of the Airbnb community, these designers are based across the globe; from Korean-born Ahryun Lee, who showcased lively textured vases in bright colours to the Hungarian designer Simon Zsolt Josef whose design objects are created in muted palettes with natural forms.

Passeggiata: An Airbnb Experience of Milan was Airbnb’s third activation for Salone del Mobile in Milan and attracted over 7,800 visitors from 4th – 7th April 2017.
