News McKinsey Design – The Business Value of Design

Over five years, McKinsey Design—a division of the qualitative and quantitative business advisory firm—tracked design-related data points at 300 companies for a world first study: The Business Value of Design. During 2019’s Milan Design Week, McKinsey Design invited a series of journalists, executives, designers, entrepreneurs and business leaders from across the global design industry to discuss the leading report.

The panel discussion was chaired by Dezeen Founder and Editor-in-Chief Marcus Fairs, who was joined by Ivy Ross (VP Design for Hardware for Google) and Jakob Lange (Partner at Bjarke Ingels Group; Head of BIG Ideas), Ben Sheppard (Partner at McKinsey Design), Gianluca Brugnoli (Executive Director, McKinsey Design) and Hanna Stuever (Founder of Retail Portfolio Solutions).

The panel reflected on key findings of the study and what has happened in the six months since it was published. The experts then went on to discuss the changing nature of design from products to services and whether design is something done by intuition or by artificial intelligence.
