News Kelly Behun XO Barneys New York
"For her Barneys pop-up shop, which could really be called an exhibition, Behun created an exclusive capsule collection filled with the makings of a great tableau."
Alainna Alexis Beddie, T Magazine
New York

This week marked the opening of New York-based interior designer Kelly Behun's standalone pop up shop, A Kook Milieu, located at Barneys New York's Madison Avenue store. On view from September 8th through October 31st, 2016, the pop up space pays homage to the late gallerist Holly Solomon, showcasing an array of pieces from Behun’s own line, exclusive pieces designed by Behun for Barneys New York, as well as additional pieces she has curated for the space.

The shop, which echoes Solomon's irreverent approach to blurring the lines between design and art, offers a selection of over forty new home furnishings, tabletop accessories, textiles, furniture and rugs Behun has designed exclusively in partnership with a series of specialists makers from around the world. Central to the space, are original art works by two of Holly Solomon’s key artists: the noted narrative painter and sculptor Izhar Patkin, and seminal Pattern & Decoration artist Kim MacConnel.

One of Patkin’s most iconic works, a vibrant, painted neoprene curtain which was created to hang in Solomon’s Park Avenue dining room and later shown at the Venice Biennale, as well as large scale wallpaper based on original art by MacConnel, providing the perfect backdrop for a collection of his painted furniture. To celebrate the launch of the collection, a beautiful private dinner was held in an East Village townhouse welcoming Behun’s collaborators, gallerists, media and influencers.
