News Design China Beijing 2019
“We are proud to return to Beijing this year with a bigger, more impactful presentation of Chinese and international design. For 2019, we are putting a spotlight on sustainability, because it has so strongly influenced contemporary design processes in China today and I want to distil this for our audience and use the fair as platform to celebrate our community's responsibility to the environment."
Zhuo Tan, Director of Design China Beijing and Design Shanghai
Hall 11, National Agricultural Exhibition Centre, Beijing, China

The second edition of Design China Beijing closed on 16 September 2019 and welcomed over 30,000 professional audience and public visitors over five days. Design China Beijing 2019 featured more than 200 leading brands from China and around the world with a focus on the theme of sustainability––sustainable design, the sustainability of design, the past and future of craftsmanship, and diversified symbiosis––and exhibitors and designers explored how design could be innovative and green.

Designers and brands that have always been committed to sustainability brought inspiring products and new material research to the fair. Chinese designers, especially those of the younger generation, experimented with technology and explored the potentials and possibilities of various materials recycled and collected from their immediate environments. Additionally, the fair presented a selection of brands whose design concepts are rooted in Chinese aesthetics, each of whom investigates and broadens the definition of Chinese brand, adapting to while challenging the ever-changing trends and tastes in this globalized economy.

In comparison to its sister fair Design Shanghai, Design China Beijing is more thematic and more research-led with a spotlight on Chinese designers and brands as well as design education in China. This year, the fair invited four of the most prestigious art & design academies in China to showcase student design works. During the fair, prominent figures from the international design industry presented and discussed a wide range of topics such as design process, innovative craftsmanship, design education curriculum and future.
