For the 2016 edition of Salone del Mobile, Airbnb took up residence at Ristorante Marta, an authentic Milanese restaurant at the heart of the city’s design community and neighbour to the renowned Galeria Rossana Orlandi. Curated by Ambra Medda, Airbnb showcased Makers & Bakers, a show featuring the work of 25 emerging creatives and designers from across the globe.

Inspired by the moments in which we gather around the table to break bread, converse and create connections, Makers & Bakers invited visitors to experience Marta Pulini’s delicious cuisine using new designs for the table and dining. From sitting on a bespoke bench by local designer Giacomo Moor, to crushing pepper using a grinder by London-based duo Laetitia de Allegri and Matteo Fogale, guests throughout the week enjoyed interacting with the objects and products as well as each other.

Alongside the new pieces, Ambra invited Auckland twin sisters Harry and Carter Were to take up residence as ‘makers’ for the week. Carter brought her much-loved baking brand Were Bros to the space, serving up delicious freshly baked seeded and sprouted loaves each morning for breakfast. Her sister Harry knits and invited visitors throughout the week to pull up a stool and join her. The space was also animated with illustrations by Londoner Zebedee Helm who created a mural in the entrance and was also illustrating postcards with images of the Makers & Bakers objects.
