Entitled ‘Annecy’, a small but beautiful show dedicated to some of the last works by the late American designer Vladimir Kagan is currently on view at Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s New York outpost. The undisputed star is a stunning sculptural sofa in walnut and wool. It embodies Kagan’s belief that ‘function should follow form’ and is as amazing to look at as it is inviting.
Other pieces include a low desk and console presented alongside sketches, quotes from admirers including Zaha Hadid and Tom Ford, along with a prototype of a desk that was not completed in his lifetime. It is incredible to see how productive the designer continued to be right until the end of his career.
