Last week we visited Everybody.World’s headquarters to say hello to the founders Iris Alonzo and Carolina Crespo during a gathering they hosted. Everybody.World is housed in the historic American Cement Building which was built to showcase the strength and architectural possibilities of cement through its enormous exoskeleton of x-shaped lattices. The latticework, the building’s signature is both visually arresting and sculptural.
Inside Everybody World, shoppers were invited to shop in their glass loft overlooking McArthur Park and offered shots of mezcal made by Carolina Crespo’s grandmother. On offer were their basic shirts and items in their signature sunny yellow color. Everything Everbody.World makes is made in California from 100% recycled cotton. Former American Apparel veterans Iris and Carolina also invite everybody (non-designers) a chance to design something for their collection.
They’ve worked with Jean Pigozzi to create snake-shaped body pillows in hand-printed African fabrics. Other collaborators include Prakash Gokalchand, a chess master who has played for 30 years in the park across the street from Alonozo who designed a button up shirt and 80 year old Delores Kerr from Advanced Style who has been hosting Opera League musical events from her home for over 15 years.
