During a recent trip to San Francisco, I made it a priority to visit the newly re-opened San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. SFMOMA opened its doors on May 14, 2016 after being closed for nearly three years to undergo an extensive expansion.
Designed by Snøhetta, the galleries are seamlessly integrated from the previous building. The new façade was inspired by the waters and fog of the San Francisco Bay. Inside, a windowed staircase allows daylight to flood gallery landings and terraces with floors dedicated to permanent collections, curated works and photography.
I was able to tour through most of the building in my visit, exploring the exhibitions California and the West, Approaching American Abstract , Model Behavior, Alexander Calder and The Campaign for Art. California and the West was one of my favorites. A photography exhibition that looks at landscapes over time.
