New York City got its first Brazilian-style 'tapiocaria', thanks to OCA, which just opened up in Nolita. OCA, which means “house” in Brazil’s indigenous language, offers up their trademark crepes made from gluten-free flour derived from the cassava root in a variety of sweet and savory options. The flour is high in protein and antioxidants and has become a bit of a sensation in Brazil’s food scene.
OCA’s motto is “Eat Positive, Be Positive” and they strive to give customers fresh, local and organic food because they believe that “we are what we eat” and “that food is really fuel not only for our bodies, but also for our souls.”
Though it was a hard choice, we tried the OCA #3, with scrambled eggs, dried tomatoes, bufala mozzarella, and truffle oil, and a parmesan cheese crust, and OCA #6, which includes salmon, homemade cashew nut cream, wasabi, pumpkin seeds, and avocado.
