Earlier this month, the iconic American brand Herman Miller opened its first ever brick and mortar store in a historic Park Avenue building in New York’s Flatiron District. The neighborhood is quickly becoming the city’s new design hub and Herman Miller’s vast space is now one of the real highlights. The bright, airy shop spans across two floors and is divided into a series of inspiring spaces for sleeping, dining and working. I especially loved that there was a thoughtful edit of other brands and designers, from Wästberg lighting and iittala dinnerware to Helen Levi ceramics and Carl Auböck candleholders.
On the second floor, visitors can browse a fantastic selection of design books and stationary, and view a series of changing exhibitions. The first is dedicated to the history of the chair starting from the Eames Lounge Chair to the ergonomic Aeron Chair, which was just updated by Herman Miller.
The whole space is a design lover’s dream and such a welcome addition to New York’s burgeoning design district.
