A massive inflated floating pig / baby hybrid greets visitors entering the 5th edition of the Frieze Art Fair on New York’s Randall’s Island. Entitled Free Money, the work, which is an ominous take on a parade float, is a special commission by artist Alex Da Cort and a kind of irreverent commentary on the fair itself.
200 international galleries like David Zwirner, Timothy Taylor and Hauser & Wirth have been assembled for the fair alongside a series of special installations and performances. During our visit, we were lucky enough to be gifted a tiny sea horse from the roving professional pickpocket. Acting on behalf of the artist David Horvitz, he deposits small sculptures in the pockets of some visitors.
And when you need a moment to relax and break from the art, the fair has done a great job of assembling a great selection of food & drink, partnering with Brooklyn favorites like Frankie’s Spuntino and Roberta’s and the Mexican restaurant Cosme, among others.
