The Barbican is currently hosting an extensive display of works designed by the dynamic duo, Charles and Ray Eames. Ranging from graphic magazine covers to photography, architecture and furniture, the exhibition, which spans two floors, delves deep into the work of this married couple who contributed so much to the world of design.
This is the first Eames retrospective to be shown in the UK since 1999. Curated by the Barbican's Catherine Ince, the exhibition includes over 380 pieces created during the designers' lifetimes. Whilst highlighting the Eames’ great professional achievements the exhibition also lets us in to their personal lives with a scale model of their home, photographs and a wonderful selection of handwritten, romantic love letters between the couple, including a letter of proposal from Charles to Ray after they met at Cranbook Academy of Arts in 1940.
Whether you’re an Eames fanatic or not; this exhibition should not be missed.
