Summertime in New York is a wonderful, albeit very steamy, time to enjoy outdoor concerts, art installations and food festivals. While strolling through Madison Square Park one afternoon I was able to view a monumental sculpture by Martin Puryear. An American artist featured in the Museum of Modern Art, Puryear is known for his sculptures but this one is his largest yet.
Designed out of plank-wood and chain-link-fence, Big Bling towers over bystanders at forty feet tall. The multi-tiered structure is graceful yet strong a shimmering gold shackle holding it all together. Big Bling commands attention at the center of the park and will serve as a backdrop for picnics and evening walks until the winter.
Big Bling will be on view through January 8, 2016.
