Beauty – Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial is the fifth installment of the museum’s hallmark exhibition series. Beauty celebrates creativity through its focus on aesthetic innovation, engaging the mind, body, and sense. Curated by Andrea Lipps, Assistant Curator, and Ellen Lupton, Senior Curator of Contemporary Design, Beauty features more than 250 works by 63 designers and design teams from around the world. The exhibit is divided into seven themes: extravagant, intricate, ethereal, emergent, transgressive, and transformative.
The exhibit takes up the museum’s first and third floors, and offers visitors an immersive and multisensory experience through the use of interactive touch-screen panels, video, sound, and interactive games. This all becomes possible with the Cooper Hewitt’s Pen technology, which allows users to learn more about each piece of work and then save that work to be accessed online later.
