Founded in 1980 by partners Glenn Pushelberg and George Yabu, Yabu Pushelberg is an international design firm renowned for its work across the residential, retail, hospitality, and restaurant sectors, as well as products. With offices in Toronto and New York, it is known for its “anything is possible” approach, experimenting with new materials and forging relationships with independent artists to create original interiors and products that transcend trends. Having evolved to encompass all aspects of design, the firm’s multidisciplinary approach is centered on storytelling, crafting uniquely layered, thoughtful experiences, devoid of extraneous details.
For this summer’s Olympic Games, the Canadian Olympic Committee appointed Yabu Pushelberg to design Canada Olympic House – the first time a Canadian firm has been chosen to do so. Opening on August 4th, the residentially-inspired interiors will serve as home base for loved ones of Team Canada, and its athletes, during the Olympic Games.
Other upcoming projects include the fall openings of Las Alcobas Napa Valley and the Four Seasons New York Downtown in lower Manhattan. For Las Alcobas, not only did the firm conceive the interiors, but it also advised on elements such as landscape design, uniforms, art, architecture, and other parts of the brand.
Deeply committed to philanthropic efforts, Yabu Pushelberg is designing the interiors for Egale Centre in Toronto, Canada’s first emergency and transitional housing facility exclusively dedicated to homeless LGBTIQ2S youth. It is expected to open in late 2017.
Extending its unique vision beyond the world of interiors, Yabu Pushelberg has collaborated with furniture manufacturers such as Stellar Works, Linteloo, Avenue Road, and Van Rossum – as well as a line of home accessories for Pampaloni Silver with several upcoming product collaborations in the pipeline. Driven by partnerships with thoughtful, creative like-minded people, the firm has also worked with some of the world’s leading innovators of hotel groups, retailers, and restaurants, including Ian Schrager, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Park Hyatt International, Barneys, and Lane Crawford, to name just a few.
