The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia. Situated over two magnificent buildings – NGV International and NGV Australia – the Gallery hosts a wide range of international and local artists, exhibitions, programs and events; from contemporary art to major international historic exhibitions, fashion and design, architecture, sound and dance.
Founded in 1861, today the NGV holds the most significant collection of art in the region; a vast treasury of more than 70,000 works that span thousands of years and a wealth of ideas, disciplines and styles.
Every three-years, the NGV Triennial brings contemporary art, design and architecture into dialogue, offering a visually arresting and thought-provoking view of the world at a moment in time. Featuring major new commissions and recent works that span geography, perspective and genre, the exhibition, which was inaugurated in 2017, celebrates the work of some of the world’s most accomplished artists and designers, while also giving voice to emerging practitioners.
NGV is also a presenting partner of the annual Melbourne Design Week. Featuring a robust roster of exhibitions, talks, films, tours and workshops across the city, Melbourne Design Week is Australia’s leading international design event and showcases the very best in Australian design. The most recent edition of the festival in 2021 explored the theme of “design the world you want” with over 300 events and exhibitions across 11 days.
