is a global design studio breaking new ground in the evolving world of international luxury and experiential retail & hospitality. Founded in London, UK, in 2002 by architects Torquil McIntosh and Simon Mitchell, Sybarite has made a name for itself by creating architectural interiors that combine the essence of the brand with a compelling narrative. Now the studio has thousands of projects to its name in cities all over the world, numbering international fashion brands such as Marni, Alberta Ferretti and Joseph among them.
A landmark project for the studio, and its first with SKP, was the transformation of Shin Kong Place, a shopping mall in Beijing, China, into SKP Beijing. After the success of SKP Beijing, Sybarite was asked to create a new 20-storey, luxury landmark SKP store in Xi’an, China’s former capital, which opened in 2018 and is currently China’s largest luxury department store. SKP-S Beijing followed in 2019, located opposite the original SKP store and is regarded as offering a benchmark experiential retail experience.
Sybarite’s current projects include a major brand diversification project for Ferrari with a roll out of flagship stores in Italy and USA. These stores will present an entirely new design concept that pays tribute to Ferrari’s rich heritage but with a highly contemporary visual approach. In addition to this, Sybarite is working on an exceptional luxury subterranean retail masterplan in the Chinese province of Sichuan, which will be the first of its kind, occupying a sizeable footprint that is 650 metres long and 250 metres wide.
