Last week I visited The New Décor exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. The first floor has been furnished with sculptures and installations which takes interior design as a point of departure. A combination of drama and illusion, highlights include – Roman Signer‘s ’Floating Table’ and Spencer Finch’s light installation, Night Sky. On the second floor, Ernesto Neto: The Edges of the World, there is a labyrinthine installation, a series of sculptures-within-sculptures invites you to explore, relax and have fun. Each distinct area morphs into another. In one room the installation leads you through to an outdoor swimming pool!

The Mediterranean Years

On Friday, I headed over to Gagosian Gallery Britannia Street which is playing host to an exhibition featuring works reflecting Picasso‘s domestic life. The show is a snapshot of Picasso’s most intimate moments – the several paintings and sculptures of children at play reflect his joys of fatherhood and his passion for the women in his life. While in the South of France, Picasso painted, sketched and sculpted, and embarked on a period of renewed artistic creativity. Most of the works in the show are from the personal ménage of the Picasso family so get to the show before it ends on 28 August.

This is the last week to discover the ‘Sustainable Futures’ exhibition at the Design Museum. This exhibition explores a range of products, concepts and projects that address issues of sustainability in their design. We loved Yves Béhar’s sustainable packaging designed for sports brand Puma!

Urban Africa - Photographic Survey by David Adjaye

Valentina and I went to the Design Museum in London to catch up with the last week of this photographic show by architect David Adjaye. Over the past ten years Adjaye, who was born in Africa, has taken photographs of civil and commercial buildings in the capital cities of every country in the continent. The exhibition shows a series of amazing photographs, giant maps and videos.

Joana Vasconcelos Exhibition

We swung by Haunch of Venison last week to see the new exhibition; Psychopomps. However, we were completely sidetracked by the substantial works of Portuguese artist, Joana Vasconcelos. The exhibits range from oversized glazed ceramic animal sculptures, mannequins and pianos, all wrapped up in intricate knitted crochet, to a surreal space where glowing flowers guide you through a dark maze. Stumble out and you might grab hold of one of the security ropes…made from plaits of hair!
