On my trip to Barcelona last week I headed straight to Tapac 24, a small tapas restaurant (Tapac is tapas in Catalan) located just a stone’s throw from the Gaudi architecture of Paseo de Gracia. It is the latest project by Carles Abellan, who worked for over a decade with Ferran Adria at El Bulli, so I knew I was in for a treat; and boy it did not disappoint! Open from eight to midnight, the food at Tapac 24 is utterly sublime – the Peppers Padron and Iberian Croquettes are a must! For those in search of something more upscale Abellan has just opened Bravo 24 at the stunning W Hotel by Barcelona beach.
Behind a spray-painted door, in a run-down former electronics supply store on Canal Street in New York, artist Terence Koh has mounted a small gallery show curated by photographer Tim Barber. In the space, connected to Koh’s apartment, the artist has painted the floor blue and asked Barber to mount a show entitled “Open Sesame (the Blue Floor Show)”. The works on display include manipulated photographs by young artists including Andrew Kuo, Aurel Schmidt, Matt Keegan, Ryan McGinley, and Sam Falls. Check it out soon — the show closes this week. Just ring the bell and hope to be let in.
Two new music-themed shows at Steven Kasher Gallery in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood are definitely worth checking out. The first, Laura Levine: Musicians, is the first one-person gallery exhibition of Laura Levine’s photography, including her intimate photographs of Madonna, Captain Beefheart, Afrika Bambaataa, and Joey Ramone, among others. The gallery’s main show, Rude and Reckless: Punk/Post-Punk Graphics, 1976-82 includes over 200 rare concert posters from artists including Patti Smith, New Order, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Nina Hagen, among many others. Both shows run through August 19.
Since summer finally arrived this weekend, I went to Columbia Road to pick up some flowers and check out Lily Vanilli’s Bakery. En route I found this shop which is inspired and full of handmade cards, jewellery, clothes and home ornaments. On Saturday August 13th they will host a summer show.

This week we stopped by one of our favorite New York shops, Kiosk, to check out their new collection of products from India. Every four to six months, the Soho-based Kiosk introduces a new collection of well curated curiosities from selected countries like Mexico, Finland, Iceland, Portugal, or Japan. The new India collection includes everything from boldly graphic saris to the perfectly designed Tiffin, or Indian lunch box. Like most other items at Kiosk, the products from the India collection will only be available for a limited time.
