In the old French concession area of Shanghai, Dunhill set up HQ three years ago at 796 Huai Hai Lu. As one of Shanghai’s most visionary private members club, Kee Club has a unique ambiance. The burgundy velvet, deep leather and historic elements make this a very special place. We loved the private dining room and outdoor terrace for a quiet glass of champagne.

Peace Hotel is legendary in Shanghai and was re-opened last August by Fairmont after three years of restoration. It has a history of guests, from Charlie Chaplin to Douglas Fairbanks and JG Ballard. It has been authentically been restored with enormous style and grace, complete with new Jazz Club and the original Lalique glass remains in the 8th floor meeting room above the mirrors. This entrance ceiling takes your breath away.

On Monday, Bettys Kitschen opened at the IFC Mall in Hong Kong. The brainchild of Alan Yau with Andre Fu, it is a refreshing addition to the restaurant scene. At the end, there is a basil wall of 800 plants. The menu is fresh with inviting muffins and juices for breakfast or brunch food at lunchtime.

With the recent disastrous events in Japan, this new exhibition at the Geffrye Museum could not be timelier. ‘At home in Japan’ re-evaluates contemporary Japanese life through an ethnographic lens examining a variety of aspects of the home – from furniture and interior to tatami mats and shrines to dead relatives – recreating a typical Japanese home where traditional and modern merge behind closed doors. You are encouraged to handle the objects in the display (especially the kimonos in a conspicuous drawer in the bedroom).

Lane Crawford’s Homestore in Pacific Place, Hong Kong is a tribute to Ross Urwin. It is beautifully orchestrated, with a selection of brands from around the world. It includes lighting from Bocci, Lee Broom who we know well, to a stunning array of furniture and accessories.
